Molding your thermoformable mouthguard
Thermoforming your mouthguard
You have just purchased a thermoformable mouthguard. For it to be perfectly adapted to your morphology, it must be thermoformed in hot water.
Please follow these steps carefully:
1. Preparation
You will need:
- your ThermoFlex or OrthoFlex mouthguard
- two bowls (one filled with cold water, the other empty)
- a kettle or a pot of boiling water
- a fork
- a stopwatch
2. Hot water
Boil the water and fill the empty bowl.
Submerge your mouthguard in the boiling water and start the stopwatch for 45 seconds.
The mouthguard tends to float to the surface of the water; use the fork to keep it fully submerged.
3. Mouthguard Molding
After 45 seconds, remove the mouthguard with the fork and immerse it in cold water for 1 second, just enough for a quick dip.
4. In the mouth
Insert your mouthguard straight into your mouth. Make sure it covers the entire surface of your teeth.
Bite down firmly, massage your cheeks, and press your tongue against the mouthguard so that it adapts perfectly to your morphology.
Keep it in your mouth for 45 seconds while continuing to massage your cheeks.
5. Cold water
Remove your mouthguard and rinse it under cold water.
You can gently pinch the bottom of the mouthguard at the molars during this operation to increase retention.
Your mouthguard is ready!
